Worachai: Judges met with Suthep

Two Constitution Court judges met with former Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban following the court's ruling on Nov 20 on a charter amendment draft, according to Pheu Thai MP for Samut Prakan Worachai Hema, who foreshadowed a major red-shirt rally in Bangkok.

Mr Worachai  said a major red-shirt protest rally planned for Bangkok next week would attract 100,000 supporters.

He said on Thursday he had learned that the two judges went to see Mr Suthep during the rally at the Democracy Monument.

He did not mention the source of his information and said only that the name of one of the judges began with the initial "Ch".

The Samut Prakan MP said he suspected the judges, whom he did not name, and Mr Suthep might be conspiring to overthrow the government because this coincided with Mr Suthep's resignation as an MP. He gave no information to back his allegation against the members of the court.

Since the government had backed away from pushing through the amnesty bill, there was no reason for people to continue with the protest rally because it would only cause damage to the economy, he said.

What was happening now was similar to the protest rally when the Constitution Court was about to deliver the ruling which led to the dissolution of the People's Power Party during the government of the late Samak Sundaravej, Mr Worachai said.

Mr Worachai said this caused him to worry that on Nov 20, when the Constitution Court was scheduled to deliver a verdict on the charter amendment draft on the make-up of the Senate, something might happen to the government, similar to that which happened to the Samak Sundaravej government - a case of a government being brought down by an independent organisation.

The legislation has been signed by 312 MPs and senators.

Because of this, the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) would hold a major rally of red shirts at Muang Thong Thani on Nov 18-30 to demonstrate support for and protect the government, he said.

Mr Worachai believed the rally would draw more than 100,000 red-shirts.
