Tangmo says dad's car hit in acid attack

Actress Pattarida "Tangmo" Patcharaweerapong has filed charges with police after acid was thrown at her father's car.

She believes the attack was politically motivated.

The incident occurred after she participated in the Democrat-led rally at the Democracy Monument earlier this month, along with her father.

The car, parked in front of her house near the Ram Intra expressway, was damaged by two unidentified men.

The men were seen exiting a white Mazda and pouring acid on the other vehicle, according to the actress' father Sophon, who viewed security camera footage at the scene.

Police have also encountered violence during the weeks-long rallies against the Yingluck Shinawatra government.

An officer, identified as Pol Sgt Maj Kritsana Mangkala, yesterday sustained minor injuries caused by shrapnel from an explosive device.

The device went off as he was guarding barriers on Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue near Makkhawan Rangsan bridge.

The spot is near the rally site of the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand.

Bomb disposal police are investigating whether the material came from a ping pong bomb or a firecracker.

National Human Rights Commissioner Niran Pitakwatchara yesterday met protest leaders and police to work out ways to minimise violence.

They agreed to set up a "coordination centre" to deal with any misunderstandings that may arise, Dr Niran said.

The centre is made up of representatives from the National Human Rights Commission, People's Network for Non-Violence, police and three rally groups.
