Police are capable of keeping the situation under control in Bangkok and nearby with the authority given them by the Internal Security Act (ISA), police chief Adul Saengsingkaew said on Wednesday.
Pol Gen Adul was trying to calm public concerns about possible political violence after anti-government protest leader and former Democrat MP for Surat Thani Suthep Thaugsuban announced protesters would lay siege to all ministries today.
The police chief insisted there is no need at this time to issue an executive decree on public administration in emergency situations, which allows authorities to arrest and detain suspects without court approval.
