Silpakorn University will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a concert titled "Extreme Beethoven", which will feature a selection of masterpieces by distinguished contemporary composers at the National Theatre on Dec 11 at 7.30pm.

Johan de Meij from the Netherlands will conduct the ‘Extreme Beethoven’ concert.

Held in collaboration with the Department of Asean Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the concert also pays tribute to HM the King's 86th birthday.

It will be performed by Feroci Philharmonic Winds under the baton of Dutch conductor Johan de Meij.

The programme will feature His Majesty's musical composition, Medley, and new arrangements and compositions by de Meij and members of Silpakorn University's Faculty of Music.

The repertoire includes Lertkiat Chongjirajitra's Royal Celebration Fantasia Overture, Sinnapa Sarasas and Damrih Banawitayakit's Rittrato di Feroci _ a tribute to Acharn Silpa Bhirasri, the university's founder _ and de Meij's Extreme Beethoven, Songs From The Catskills and Klezmer Classics.

Also planned are performances of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Sea Songs, Eric Whitacre's Equus and Alfred Reed's El Camino Real as well as Dmitri Shostakovich and de Meij's Waltz No. 2 from Jazz Suite No. 2.

Tickets cost 300 and 500 baht (50 baht for students) and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major outlets. The National Theatre is located on Rachini Road.
