Private sector mulls over crisis

Seven leading private sector organisations will try to find a peaceful way to end the political deadlock at a meeting today.

Paiboon Nalinthrangkurn, chairman of the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organisations, has expressed his concern about the mass rallies involving anti-government demonstrators, led by the People's Democratic Reform Committee, which are expected to escalate today.

The private sector organisations are the Board of Trade of Thailand, the Federation of Thai Industries, Tourism Council of Thailand, the Thai Bankers Association, the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organisations, the Stock Exchange of Thailand and Thai Listed Companies Association.

Mr Paiboon said one of the discussion issues will be finding a mediator to help bring a compromise between the government and the protesters.

The group supports any peaceful negotiations that take place between the opposing parties and would be open to a forum for academics and other organisations to find political resolutions.

Mr Paiboon said if the situation continues, it could become even more violent.
