Police on Monday accused anti-government protesters of breaking into the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) at Chaeng Wattana government complex and stealing hard drives and other assets.
Police officers inspected the TCSD office on Monday afternoon after People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) leader Suthep Thaugsuban and his supporters abandoned the complex to march to Government House.
The team found the office had been ransacked and information relating to technological crimes were partially destroyed and stolen, a source close to the TCSD said on condition of anonymity.
“Computer parts were stolen and closed-circuit TV cameras were tampered with. They took all they could, including laptop computers and hard drives from PCs,” the source said.
The thief or thieves also ransacked the office of TCSD commander Pol Maj Gen Siripong Timula. Several other state agencies in the complex had also been broken into, the source added.
Mr Suthep and his supporters began to occupy the complex on Nov 27.
The TCSD stores classified information and evidence for the prosecution of criminals implicated in technology- and computer-related offences. The Pheu Thai-led government has been accused of repeatedly using the agency to take legal action against its opponents.
Pol Maj Gen Siripong could not be reached for comment, but officers inspecting the scene believed the theft was the work of the protesters.
