7 Cambodians held for illegal logging

Seven Cambodian nationals were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly logging in a protected forest near the border in Si Sa Ket.

Huai Sala park rangers said they spotted illegal logging activity during a routine patrol in the Khun Han district, about 7km from the Cambodian border.

Many of the loggers evaded capture, though seven were apprehended allegedly in possession of hand saws, an axe, and 21 Siamese rosewood logs.

The timber would be worth about 1.5 million baht if sold abroad.

Authorities believe the logs were due to be sold to an agent at the Cambodian border.

No shots were fired during the arrest operation.

The seven suspects have been sent to the Khun Han Local Police Division.
