The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is likely to accept cases filed against anti-government leader Suthep Thaugsuban as a special case when it meets next week.
DSI chief Tarit Pengdith on Wednesday said the DSI's special case committee would meet on Dec 17 to consider accepting cases against Mr Suthep, secretary-general of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), as a special case.
The DSI would propose Mr Suthep be indicted on charges of insurrection and violating Section 112 of the Criminal Code, also known as the lese majeste law.
Mr Tarit said his deputy Pol Lt Col Wannapong Khotcharak would meet police to discuss cases against the PDRC leader.
As far as he knew, about 40 cases had been filed with the Metropolitan Police Bureau against Mr Suthep.
The DSI chief also warned academics who went on stage at the rally venue and those who gave their opinions supporting Mr Suthep's actions that they would face charges.
