NHRC voices dismay at police rally report

The National Human Rights Commission sub-panel on civil rights and political rights has expressed dismay at the police explanation for their response to the violence inside Ramkhamhaeng University on Nov 30-Dec 1.

Sub-panel chairman Niran Pitakwatchara said police representatives were unable to make clear why officers had been unable to escort students out of the university when the violence was taking place.

Dr Niran said the police admitted there were many officers deployed to help control the violence on those days.

But he said none had helped the students escape the campus as running battles broke out between anti-government protesters and red-shirt supporters who were meeting at a stadium nearby.
