Follow King's advice, Prem says

Political conflict should be resolved by adopting His Majesty the King's New Year's Eve advice on national peace, according to Privy Council chairman Prem Tinsulanonda.

His Majesty used a brief televised address on Tuesday to call for calm across the country, encouraging people to think about the collective interest before taking any action.

Gen Prem yesterday noted His Majesty's message was short but meaningful, encouraging people to read through it carefully to understand its full meaning.

The Privy Council chairman said the message shows everyone how to forge national unity and love.

He said that by following His Majesty's advice, people will make not only themselves but the entire nation happy.

When asked by reporters if he would be able to broker talks between caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban, Gen Prem said he had nothing to say on the matter.

Gen Prem was visited yesterday by several New Year guests including caretaker Deputy Defence Minister Yuthasak Sasiprapa and national police chief Adul Saengsingkaew.

On New Year's Day, Ms Yingluck and armed forces leaders paid an informal visit to Gen Prem.
