Reds won't march in Bangkok, South

The red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship on Tuesday announced it will stage nationwide counter-rallies ― but not in the southern provinces or Greater Bangkok ― on Jan 13, when the People's Democratic Reform Committee will begin its mass protest to shut down the capital.

Caretaker Deputy Commerce Minister and red-shirt co-leader Nattawut Saikuar made the announcement at a  meeting of more than 5,000 UDD key leaders and supporters from across the country  at Chalerm Phra Kiat Stadium in Muang district of Nakhon Ratchasima province on Tuesday.

The UDD invited people all over the country "who love the nation and democracy" and do not want to see the damage to Thailand that would be caused by the PDRC shutdown of Bangkok, to begin demonstrating along main roads in their provinces from 9am on Jan 13, Mr Nattawut told the meeting.

The demonstrations on that day would exclude Bangkok and its vicinity, to avoid confronting the PRDC supporters, including the southern region where many people back the PDRC.

“Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban will see how many people are against him” and the PDRC during the Jan 13 counter-rallies, Mr Nattawut added.
