146 city schools to close for 'shutdown'

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has ordered the temporary closure of 146 schools under its authority in 26 districts on Jan 13, to reduce the impact from the planned Bangkok shutdown by the People’s Democratic Reform Committee.

Krit Watcharasiritham, deputy director of BMA’s Department of Education said the planned protest might not be safe for students, who could face difficulties getting to and from school.

The BMA will monitor situation on a daily basis and the schools’ directors had the authority to close classes for th safty of students.

There are also private schools in protest areas that may announce their closure for Jan 13 later.
