PDRC: Election delay pointless

The Election Commission's proposal for the government to issue a royal decree to postpone the election from Feb 2 to May 4 is pointless as the only goal of the People's Democratic Reform Committee is for the caretaker prime minister and government to resign to make way for reform, PDRC core member Sathit Wongnongtoey said on Sunday.

Speaking from the main anti-government rally stage at Ratchadamnoen, Mr Sathit said in the PDRC's view the EC's proposal for the government to postpone the election to May 4 is pointless.

Even if the election is postponed, the government would still be in a caretaking positition. There would still be no change to the election rules to ensure justice, he said.

The only goal of the PDRC is for careaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and the government to resign and there must be reforms before an election is held.

Mr Sathit reaffirmed that the protest site on Ratchadamnoen Avenue would be dismantled Monday morning and the protesters would move to seven other main locations. They are the intersections at Pathumwan, Chaeng Watthana, Lumpini, Ratchaprasong, Asok, Victory Monument and Lat Phrao.
