The blast damaged the roof and shattered windows of a house belonging to Mr Abhisit’s father, Athasit, who shares the compound with him, Thong Lor police said.

Mr Abhisit and his family were not at home at the time.

Four suspects were apprended, one of them woman, but they were later released as there was no evidence they were involved in the  bombing at Mr Abhisit's house, Bang Na police chief Pol Col Thawatkiat Kuanchinda said.

Two people, one of them belived to be a security guard of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), were injured in a shooting near the Hua Chang bridge in Ratchathewi district, police reported.

The area is a rally site of the anti-government group.

The incident took place around midnight and witnesses said the gunshots were fired from a building in the area.

At Nang Loeng, a bus from Phatthalung province was burned about 1.47am on Wednesday. No injuries were reported.

Driver Ampai Saengpratheep said the bus transported protesters from the southern province to the rally site on Sunday.

The area is controlled by the Students and People Network for Thailand's Reform.

The shooting took place as the PDRC's campaign to shut down Bangkok and force the caretaker cabinewt to resign,  led by former Democrat Party powerbroker Suthep Thaugsuban, entered its third day Wednesday.

Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and security authorities have said that they were concerned that "third hand" groups would take this opportunity to incite violence.
