Disney plans stage adaptation of Frozen

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

It seemed as inevitable as frost in winter, and now it's official _ a stage musical adaptation of Frozen is being planned.

Disney Theatrical Productions has confirmed that the smash-hit film, a tale of love between two royal sisters, is in early development for a stage production. The movie features tunes by the husband-and-wife songwriting team of Robert Lopez (a co-creator of the Broadway behemoth The Book Of Mormon) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who also collaborated on 2011's Winnie The Pooh.

The Frozen soundtrack made big news when it reached the No.1 spot on Billboard's album's chart last week, knocking Beyonce out of that slot.

A stage adaptation of another Disney film, 1999's animated Aladdin, is set to begin previews Feb 26 on Broadway, in preparation for a March 20 opening.
