PDRC targets GSB, lottery office

The People's Democratic Reform Committee plans to lay siege to the Government Lottery Office (GLO) and Government Savings Bank (GSB) on Monday, according to PDRC core member Chumpol Julasai.

Mr Chumpol said he would lead protesters from the Ratchaprasong and Asok rally sites to blockade the GLO in Nonthaburi province after learning that officials of the Budget Bureau had been working there.

According to the plan, the protesters would start moving from their rally sites about 9am.

From the Victory Monument rally site, protesters led by Thaworn Senneam would march to lay siege to the GSB head office to prevent the government from using GSB's money to pay farmers under the rice-pledging scheme.

Issara Somchai, a PDRC leader at the Lat Phrao intersection, said he had assigned core members to lead protesters to various offices on Phahon Yothin road which they had shut down before, to see if they were oprn again. They included the offices of the Fishery Department, Agriculture Promotion Department, Forestry Department, Expressways and Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, and the Kurusapa organisation of the Teachers Council.

The intention was to urge officials of those offices to stop work and support the PDRC's campaign for reforms before an election, Mr Issara said.

The Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand (NSPRT), meanwhile, would send out convoys of motorcycles to check various offices they had earlier laid siege to.  They included the office of the National Economic and Social Development Board, the Office of the Attorney General, the office of the Council of State, the Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EximBank), the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand (SME Bank) and Region 4 Revenue Office.

The GSB head office at Saphan Khwai on Phahon Yothin road, meanwhile, has reportedly been temporarily closed.  Signs have been put up there telling clients to use Pradipat and Chatuchak branch offices instead.
