Two killed, five hurt in South attacks

Five rangers were wounded in a bomb explosion while on foot patrol near a school in Narathiwat's Cho Airong district and two villagers shot dead in Pattani's Nong Chik district on Monday morning, reports said.

In Narathiwat, a home-made bomb was detonated when a team of six rangers from Ranger Task Force 4810 was patrolling near Ban Chuwa School in tambon Marubo Ok.

The explosion, about 10am, wounded five of the six rangers, one of them seriously. They were admitted to Cho Airong Hospital.

In nearby Nong Chik district of Pattani, gunmen opened at villagers travelling on motorcycles to a market at Ban Tha Kubo in tambon Pulo Puyo.

Two people, a man and a woman, were killed in the attack.

Police were investigating.
