Philippines, Malaysia urge caution

The Philippines and Malaysia have advised their citizens to avoid trouble spots in Bangkok following the invocation of the emergency decree.

The Philippines Foreign Ministry raised its travel alert another notch to Level 2 on Wednesday for Bangkok and other areas covered by the decree.

The alert is for Filipinos in Thailand to restrict non-essential movement, avoid public places and prepare for evacuation.

"While there has been an effort to maintain a state of normalcy in the Thai capital, the situation remains fluid and volatile, particularly in anti-government protest areas,'' it said.

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry advised people to avoid travelling to the affected areas.

"They should consider, for the time being, postponing any non-essential visits to the region for personal safety and security reasons,'' the ministry said.

It also advised Malaysians who are already in the region to closely monitor and follow instructions issued by Thai authorities.
