Royal aid given to protest victims

Their Majesties the King and Queen have provided financial help to pay medical and funeral costs for civilians and authorities injured and killed during the demonstrations led by the People's Democratic Reform Committee, according to a letter issued by the Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary.

The office sent a letter dated Jan13 to notify Bangkok governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra of the help.

The news of Their Majesties giving financial help had not been made public until yesterday. The letter stated that the financial assistance was intended for civilians and authorities who were admitted to hospitals run by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

According to the City Hall's Emergency Medical Service (Erawan Centre), nine people have died and 558 injured since the PDRC started the demonstration in October.

The injured were sent to various hospitals, including those run by the BMA and the government.
