The government will not postpone the Feb 2 election as 90% of advance voting can be completed, according to Surapong Tovichakchaikul, the caretaker deputy prime minister and foreign minister.
He said Sunday morning that the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) will on Monday issue warrants for the arrest of people who violated the Emergency Decree and the Election Act by surrounding polling stations. He said the government had taken photographs of those who violated the law.
Mr Surapong, who is CMPO advisory chairman, said the election could continue but he was worried that the Election Commission had not sought assistance from the military or the police to help guard the polling stations.
He said the EC had to file a complaint with the police in some areas in the South where the ballots had been thrown away otherwise the EC would be charged with neglect of duty.
