'Retake' of govt offices to begin Feb 3

Combined forces of the military and police will retake government offices which have been occupied by the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) from Monday, Feb 3, Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) secretary Tarit Pengdith announced on Tuesday.

Mr Tarit, director of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), said the CMPO's negotiation team led by police chief Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew would continue attempts to hold talks with PDRC protesters at all protest sites until Friday, Jan 31.

If they were unsuccessful, combined police-military forces would began asking for the return of the occupied government offices, starting Feb 3.

The CMPO would tomorrow have two meetings, at 10.30am and 2pm.  The first meeting would be with heads of government offices and leaders of the combined police-military forces.  The second meeting would be to decide on other measures, he said.

Asked about the 30 private firms he said had provided financial and logistical support for the protesters, Mr Tarit said the Special Branch police and DSI had worked together to identify them. The CMPO was today send them a letter of warning.

If those firms did not stop providing support for the PDRC, the Anti-Money Laundering Office (Amlo) would take action against them for money-laundering, Mr Tarit said.

He declined to name the 30 companies.
