Apps, game developers take lighter view of protest

The political turmoil has inspired local software developers wanting to showcase their creativity to offer free online games and apps making fun of the conflict.

Screen captures of politically related games available for mobile phones.

Available applications on Android platform.

Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary-general of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), is the focus of one game. Lung Kamnan Muan Maha Prachachon, is a digital jigsaw puzzle  which players must stitch together to create a full image, mostly with Thai flags.

There are three levels of difficulty in this game, with the easy one having only nine levels, intermediate with 16 and difficult 25.

The game also comes with the theme song that usually plays when Mr Suthep appears on stage. The game was developed by Nong Dev.

The same developer also created a more sexy game, Ruam Dao Sao Mob, or matching of good-looking female protesters. The developer says that it has collected photos of women attending the protests from Facebook and used their faces for the memory challenge game.

This game allows players to accumulate scores and offers more than 30 levels.

On the government side, caretaker Transport Minister Chatchart Sittipunt seems to be the most popular politician targeted by developers.

Whiteboard Company Limited is offering Chatchart Crush, the name based on the popular Candy Crush game available on Facebook.

The game features the switching of various faces of Mr Chatchart, to form a link of three identical faces and score points. It gets a rating of 4.8 out of five by users.

Green Moss Soft also based its application on Mr Chatchart with its Chatchart Camera Parody which offers different stickers of Mr Chatchart for use in decorating users’ own images.

The sticker is based on an image of Mr Chatchart taken in Surin, when he wore a black jogging outfit, walking barefoot and carrying a plastic bag of food to offer to a monk one morning.

An unknown person has created a Facebook page, Chatchart, the strongest Transport Minister in the World which will gather all information about the strength of Mr Chatchart.

This page was created on Jan 15 and has gained recognition in the social media with over 43,000 Facebook users "liking" the page.
