Post signs news deal with THV

Post Publishing Plc, publisher of the Bangkok Post, Post Today and M2F newspapers, has signed a memorandum of understanding with TV Pool Group to become the exclusive news content producer for the latter's THV Channel.

The five-year partnership is part of the company's goal to focus more on the TV business, which is expected to generate almost half of its revenue in the next four years.

Last year Post Publishing's revenue was 2.7 billion baht and this year it is expected to be between 2.8 to 2.9 billion baht.

"We can call our collaboration a perfect combination to strengthen content for each other to attract mass viewers," said Suthikiati Chirathivat, executive chairman of Post Publishing Plc.

Post TV, the TV arm of Post Publishing, will produce six hours of daily news content to suit the audience base of THV Channel, he said.

Post TV is extremely confident in its ability to supply quick, quality, sharp and insightful news that will best meet consumer needs based on its four-year experience in the TV business. The Bangkok Post has been a respected name in the Thai newspaper industry for more than 60 years, Mr Suthikiati said.

Pantipha Sakulchai, president of Thai TV, the operator of THV Channel, said about 25% of its content is for news, 25% for sport and documentaries and 50% for variety, soap operas and game shows. The channel starts broadcasting on April 7.

It will also produce 12 soap operas this year.

"We aim to be ranked among the top five of the 24 digital TV channels within the next five years," Ms Pantipha said.
