Suspects in bag snatching arrested

Two men who snatched a Japanese woman's bag in Sukhumvit Soi 22 three days ago have been arrested, police said on Sunday.

Thong Lor police on Sunday presented Thanyaphuset Phainok and Suwinai Jaisue to a press conference. They are charged with theft for snatching the shoulder bag of Kumi Noma while she was walking along Sukhumvit Soi 22 on Thursday.

Pol Capt Phanupat Kittiphan, the police station investigator, said the two confessed to the charges and admitted that they had been snatching bags for about a year, mainly in the Sukhumvit, Bang Rak and Asok areas.

Their targets were women who walked with their shoulder bags on the streets, the police said.

The motorcycle's licence plate, remembered by the Japanese woman, was a clue to them being tracked down, Pol Capt Phanupat said.

The white Honda Wave belonged to Mr Suwinai, 21, who was found on Thursday at his house in Soi Wat Chan Nai in Bang Kholaem district. Police arrested him and Mr Thanyaphuset, 22, with several stolen items.

Pol Capt Phanupat said Mr Thanyaphuset was the driver and Danusorn Khamdee, 22, who is on the run, was the snatcher.

Mr Suwinai sold all of the stolen items for cash, he said.
