The “Nature Meets Art: Tree of Life” exhibition features 15 contemporary art pieces, which combine traditional gilding methods with modern techniques — an approach for which the duo are renowned. The underlying theme of the pieces is the five elements — metal, wood, earth, water and fire. The earth element will be represented by rich textured backgrounds, water by a canvas of bubbles and metal by the lustre of gold and silver leaf.

A light and shadow interplay will depict the fire element, while wood will be symbolised by nature’s intriguing patterns of branches and root systems. Collectively known as JC Ganning, the Asia-based design and artist collaborative have earned international acclaim for incorporating ancient Thai techniques and mediums such as gold and silver leaf to create conversation pieces showcasing depth in texture and shadow. Their traditional Thai imagery is reinterpreted through a Western perspective and showcased with a zen-like restraint.

‘Nature Meets Art: Tree of Life’ is on display at the Street Lobby, ground floor of Sofitel So Bangkok on Sathon Road daily from 8am to 8pm, Feb 19-March 19. Call 02-624-0000.
