A man was arrested with 42,000 methamphetamine pills at a police checkpoint in Bung Khong Long district of Bung Kan province early Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, Pol Maj Gen Chaiyaporn Panich-atra, the Bung Kan police chief, ordered the setting up of checkpoints along Ban Phaeng - Bung Khong Long road to intercept a delivery of drugs.

At one of the checkpoints, police stopped a car with a Nakhon Pathom licence plate about 5.30am.  A search uncovered a brown cardboard box behind the driver's seat containing 42,000 speed pills.

Wisith Karunanam, 33, of Sakon Nakhon's Warin Chamrap district, the driver, was arrested and charged with having illicit drugs in his possession with intent to sell.

Wisith said that his boss ordered him to pick up the box from a van in Ban Phaeng district of Nakhon Phanom and deliver it to a house in Surin province.
