Filipino sailor dies in fall from crane

CHON BURI - A Philippine sailor has died after falling from a crane at Laem Chabang port, police said.

Pol Lt Thanaphol Tuennu, duty officer at Laem Chabang station, said the sailor was identified as  Domingo Pelano, 50, a Philippine national working on board the Sumile, a ship sailing under the Philippine flag and docked at bay B4.

He died on Sunday night after climbing up to repair a problem with the crane, which was unloading containers from the ship. He fell to the ground below. His body was sent to Laem Chabang Hospital.

Police will question the captain and all crew to officially determine the cause of death. His family had been contacted, Pol Lt  Thanaphol said.
