New secret hideaway for cabinet

A new temporary office has been prepared in Bangkok for caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her cabinet, but its location is being kept secret.

Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul revealed the move on Thursday.

But he did not disclose the location of the new office for fear People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban would lead demonstrators to rally at the site.

Mr Surapong confirmed that the new government office is located in the capital and said the office of permanent secretary for defence will still be used as an office for Ms Yingluck, in her capacity as caretaker defence minister.

The offices were being used by the cabinet but have come under siege by anti-government protesters.

He insisted that the various relocations of government offices would not have a detrimental affect on the running of the country by the caretaker administration.

All Ms Yingluck's planned overseas trips have been cancelled until the political situation returns to normal, he added.

Mr Surapong, who is also a caretaker foreign minister, said he will soon visit the United States, England, Russia, France, China and the United Nations Organisation, to provide briefings on the current political situation in Thailand.
