A village headman was shot dead in an ambush in Muang district of Yala province on Monday night.
He was identified as Harong Kudu, 42, chief of Ban Namyen, tambon Lam Mai, Muang district.
ASTV Manager online reported that Harong was travelling home on his motorcycle along a local road in the village when gunmen hiding in roadside forest opened fire at him with assault rifles and shotguns.
The village headman took bullets in his head and body and died on the spot.
Police were investigating.
