Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra held closed-door talks with navy chief Adm Narong Pipattanasai Wednesday morning to seek clarification of reports that several retired and current Navy SEALs officers are working as guards at the anti-government protests.
A military source said the talks occurred at 10.30am at the Air Force 80 Year Convention Hall. It was mediated by defence permanent secretary Nipat Thonglek and army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha to allow both sides to clear suspicions and mistrust between the government and the military.
The talks also involved Navy SEALs commander Adm Winai Klom-in who has been widely criticised on social networks for sending SEALs to provide safety for the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) leaders.
The source said Adm Narong had been worried since there had been media reports that showed officers of the Naval Special Warfare Command, or Navy SEALs, serving as hired guards.
He was also aware that representatives from the Navy were often asked about the matter when they attended meetings with members of the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (Capo).
