Former auditor-general Khunying Jaruvan Maintaka is to run for the Senate representing Bangkok.
She was one of five candidates who registered for the March 30 election Thursday, bringing the total number of candidates to eight.
Khunying Jaruvan, a fierce critic of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra who was involved in a controversy over her appointment as auditor general, was picked at No.8 in the candidate draw.
The other four who registered their candidacy are freelance entrepreneur Maj Ach Krongkapt (No.4), former Public Health official Aroon Konglak (No.5), university lecturer Piyasuda Paengsapha (No.6), and Treerat Sengpairoh (No.7).
The other three candidates so far are Pol Maj Gen Supisarn Bhakdinarunart, who resigned as commander of the Crime Suppression Division to run in the poll (No.1), Srisuwan Janya, president of the Anti-Global Warming Association (No.2), and Leena Jangjanya, or Leena Jang, a businesswoman and lawyer (No.3).
Registration for Senate election candidates is open until Friday, March 8.
