Ex-transport secretary Srisuk dies, 70

Srisuk Chandrangsu, a former permanent secretary for transport, died on Monday, March 10, of cancer. He was 70.

A bathing rite is scheduled for today at 4pm at Wat That Thong.

Born on Jan 14, 1944, Mr Srisuk was made permanent secretary for transport in 2000 and served during the Thaksin Shinawatra administration from 2001 until his retirement in 2004.

As chairman of the Airports of Thailand (AoT) board and chairman of the board of the New Bangkok International Airport Company Limited (NBIA) he played a major role in the construction and administration of  Suvarnabhumi airport.

Mr Srisuk was investigated in connection with alleged corruption in the purchase of CTX explosives detection equipment for the airport. The case against him was eventually dropped in 2012

After his retirement, he was a member of several boards of state enterprises.
