The cabinet on Tuesday approved a budget of 2.8 billion baht for the running of the Senate elections.
Half of the fund, or 1.4 billion baht, will be taken from the government’s annual fiscal budget. The rest is money left over from the Feb 2 general election, said deputy government spokeswoman Sunisa Lertpakawat.
The budget request was proposed by the Election Commission.
Senate elections will be held on March 30. A total of 457 candidates have registered to run for Senate seats in all 77 provinces. Bangkok has the highest number of candidates with 18.
