Adler Subhashok Gallery will have its grand opening today with a showcase of 20 new works by famous photographer Manit Sriwanichpoom.

The “Blue – The New Series of Nudes” exhibition depicts male and female forms twisting into unnatural poses. Their naked flesh is saturated with blue colour, robbing them of their sexual nature and identities so they seem androgynous.

“They are like tormented souls in the midst of conflicting forces. They twist and contort themselves into impossible knots, finding no way out,” said Manit.

In direct contrast, Manit also introduces three red nudes into the mix, each of a woman in the height of sexual arousal. Confrontational and printed in the negative, they challenge the viewer while offering consent and sexual surrender.

It is not just the colour that sets them apart from the blue nudes, but the effects employed in their creation — the double exposure and negative printing — that render them strange.

- The ‘Blue — The New Series of Nudes’ exhibition is running at Adler Subhashok Gallery from today until April 30. The opening party is today at 6pm. The gallery is located on Sukhumvit Soi 33 (Daeng Udom) and opens Mon-Fri from 10am to 5pm and 11am to 6pm on weekends.
