Station chief moved after pub killing

The chief of Sutthisan police station has been reassigned to an inactive post after a man was shot dead outside a pub that was open beyond the legal closing time in the Ratchadaphisek area under his command.

Pol Col Preecha Kongkaew's transfer, ordered by Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Khamronwit Thoopkrajang, took effect on Saturday and is in place for 30 days.

The shooting in front of a pub in Ratchadapisek Soi 14 early Tuesday morning killed a 24-year-old man and seriously wounded his wife, 28, who was three months pregnant.

The station's deputy, Pol Lt Col Attapon Inthayopasakul, was also ordered transferred.

Pol Lt Gen Khamronwit said Pol Col Preecha and his deputy had failed to curb an entertainment venue from operating after legal closing hours, which resulted in the fatal shooting incident.

The transfers were made to ensure the working effectiveness of the MPB and prevent damage to government affairs, he added.
