The International Vocal Artists of Bangkok (IVAB) will perform German choral music from the Baroque period during the “Bangkok Ain’t Baroque with Bach and Buxtehude — Masterpieces for the Lenten Season” concert at Christ Church Bangkok on March 28.

Starting at 8pm, the programme also includes contemporary music from the US and Great Britain. American conductor Carson Connor Zajdel will lead the choir and orchestra, featuring Richard Hopkins on the only organ in Thailand.

IVAB is an all-volunteer choral ensemble comprised of singers from all over the world. The members, some of whom are experienced performers and others who just love to sing, come from a variety of backgrounds including teaching, business, and non-profit organisations.

The goal of IVAB is to enhance awareness of choral music in Thailand by performing music from a wide variety of styles and time periods, fusing Western classical music with global sounds and rhythms.

The group was founded in 2012 by Zajdel, a former secondary choral music specialist from Atlanta, Georgia. An experienced choral singer, Zajdel has performed regularly with some of America’s most prestigious choirs and orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

He holds a master’s degree in choral conducting from Temple University in Philadelphia and a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

Tickets cost 300 baht (200 baht for children) and are available at the door. Christ Church is located on Convent Road. Email IVABconductor@gmail.com.
