THE SET-UP

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

A restaurant named Bath may make your imagination run wild. While we were secretly hoping to wade around in our birthday suits with food being served among floaties and rubber ducks, the new restaurant Bath doesn’t take its motif that far. Instead, the inspiration comes from public baths of ancient civilisations as places of gathering and socialising but leaves the parts about actual bathing and different levels of nakedness out. What lies behind the big wooden doors is an air of intrigue and mystery. The venue is divided into three parts. With a narrow pool in the middle and candlelight, the front building has a serenity that should suit those who want an eye-locking dinner. The second building should fit groovier occasions with a bar and DJ corner. The backyard is where to enjoy hookah and lounge about. The crowd consists of Western expats and Thai office workers looking to unwind after work.

THE MENU

Prawn skewers

The savoury offerings of Bath are categorised into three main groups — trio dishes that are meant to be shared, the restaurant’s take on Thai dishes and international dishes. The juicy Prawn skewers (B280+) impress with their crusty surface over a mellow langoustine cream sauce. Spicy seafood dip served in small cubes causes ripples of flavour in your mouth. Trio chicken (B220) offers three pairs of tender chicken pieces and different sauces but two stand out. Tandoori offers a nice aroma and a hidden surprise of mixed berries while Mexican heats things up with a spicy sensation. Betong sauce overwhelms the chicken with black soy sauce. Duck & three curry mousses (B220) is served with an invisible side of mystery as you can pair the smoked duck with green, red and massaman curries. The pieces of duck, while aromatic and tasty, are perhaps too thin to really give you flavourful splashes. What can really douse your hunger, however, is the buttery mix of mashed potato and couscous. Salmon steak (B250) is a well-rounded dish flooded with goodies. The fish, with a lather of lemon cream sauce on top, is served on mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes. Bath also offers a long list of drinks. They just introduced a signature menu with culinary influences from ancient civilisations.

INSIDER TIP

Pat, Bath’s owner, ran restaurants and clubs abroad before moving back here. We think she has done a good job in realising her vision and has added something different to Bangkok’s dining scene. On Wed, Fri and Sat, enjoy happy hour from 5-7:30pm and live bands which perform all night.

SOCIAL MEDIA MOMENTS

The black-and-white decor and the way the clear pool reflects the warm light surely make for a picture that is enchanting enough to catch the attention of your followers and friends. The food is presented with much attention to detail
(on the verge of overkill).

VALUE & VERDICT

A meal at Bath should be quite memorable. The pricing is justified by the good effort they have put into creating the atmosphere, the photogenic dishes and the flavours. G
