Customs officers at Chiang Mai international airport arrested an Indonesian man with almost three kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, or ya ice, in his bag on Wednesday.
Sunayi Ayima, 42, an Indonesian tourist, was charged with possession of 2.825kgs of crystal methamphetamine. The drug was found wrapped in aluminum foil and concealed inside a suitcase checked on a flight from China to Chiang Mai on China Eastern Airlines.
Mr Ayuma had earlier stayed in Thailand before he took a trip to China and then returned to Thailand on Wednesday. He had planned to travel to Bangkok later.
He travelled with a woman who was able to avoid arrest.
