EU urges clear Thai election schedule

BRUSSELS - The European Union has issued a statement urging Thailand to set a timetable for new elections.

"The High Representative notes the ruling of Thailand's Constitutional Court of 21 March 2014 and calls upon the relevant authorities to set a clear timetable for new elections in line with Thailand's democratic and constitutional framework," the spokeperson for Catherine Ashton, high representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and vice president of the EU, said in a statement  on Thursday

She called on all sides to commit to dialogue to find a peaceful, lasting solution and ensure that new elections involve the broadest possible participation.

"The High Representative reiterates her urgent call on all involved to refrain from violence and act in accordance with democratic principles and the rule of law."
