Former Dem MP survives shooting attack

Chanthaburi: A former Democrat Party MP for Chanthaburi province survived a gun attack yesterday just after noon, police said.

Yukol: In a serious condition

Yukol Chanawatpanya, 52, was standing in front a fertiliser shop owned by his younger brother, located in tambon Pluang of Khao Kitchakut district. He had just paid his younger brother a visit.

Police said he was talking on a telephone when he was shot in the cheek bone about 3.30pm yesterday.

The gunman travelled in a car that stopped at an intersection right in front of the fertiliser shop, police said.

They said the gunman shot at Mr Yukol just as the car’s window was rolled down.

The attacker fled immediately after the shooting.

The victim was rushed to Phrapokklao Hospital, police said.

Doctors said Mr Yukol sustained severe injuries in the attack but he was now considered stable.

A police investigation is under way.
