Yingluck, generals to hold political talks

Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will meet with selected top brass on Thursday with the political situation on the agenda, a Defence Ministry source said on Wednesday.

Ms Yingluck, who is the caretaker defence minister, called the meeting with all armed forces commanders before they join the Defence Council on the same day, the source added.

Issues in the planned talks include the ongoing political unrest and support from the armed forces on a new general election, the source said.

Also to be discussed that day is stalled peace talks with Malaysian separatists in light of Paradorn Pattanatabut being moved from the National Security Council (NSC), and security preparations for possible militant attacks during the 10th anniversay of the Krue Se massacre on April 28, the source added.

The council will hold talks on plans to locally produce or jointly make weapons with other allies, and measures to help authorities crack down on the illegal trade in phayung wood and to fight drought.

Lt Gen Paradorn will become an advisor to the prime minister after Thawil Pliensri is reinstated as NSC chief.
