PM: Abhisit deserves moral support

Talk with Suthep first, says Yingluck

Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has called for all sides to give Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva moral support in his ongoing attempt to find a solution to the country's political crisis.

She said it would be good if all went well as Mr Abhisit hoped.

The government was ready for talks with Mr Abhisit and all sides in the conflict.  However, no official appointment had yet been made for a meeting with Mr Abhisit, Ms Yingluck said.

Asked whether the meeting would be broadcast live, if it happens, the prime minister said she needed to look into the details first.

She said both the political and people sectors must join hands to solve the country's problems.

Ms Yingluck said it would be good if Mr Abhisit could hold talks with People's Democratic Reform Committee secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban before meeting the government. She said Mr Suthep was the one who initiated the reform idea.  She hoped the two could reach an agreement.

The prime minister said people should not be suspicious of Mr Abhisit's sincerity and instead watch him try and give him moral support.

On former supreme commander Saiyud Kerdpol's proposal to seek help from His Majesty the King to solve the country's problem, Ms Yingluck said any matter concerning the royal institution was sensitive and needed  deliberation.

On her meeting with the Election Commission to discuss the timeframe for a new election, Ms Yingluck said she had talked with EC chairman Supachai Somcharoen in principle, but was waiting for an official arrangement, adding the government was willing to cooperate.

Asked whether she would appear before the Constitutional Court to testify over the transfer of Thawil Pliensri as National Security Council secretary-general on May 6, the prime minister said she still had time to consider this matter.
