Thawil receives NSC royal seal of approval

Thawil Pliensri has received royal endorsement to be reinstated as National Security Council (NSC) chief, the Office of the Prime Minister said yesterday.

His reinstatement follows the nullification of the office's announcement on Sept 30, 2011 removing Mr Thawil as NSC secretary-general and making him a prime ministerial adviser. This means Mr Thawil was retroactively reinstated as NSC chief.

Mr Thawil's royal endorsement was published in the Royal Gazette yesterday.

The Supreme Administrative Court ruled on March 7 that Mr Thawil's transfer was unlawful. The court ordered his reinstatement as NSC chief.

Several senators later filed a petition with the Constitutional Court, asking it to rule whether caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her cabinet breached the charter when ordering Mr Thawil's removal from the NSC.

The court has ordered Ms Yingluck and three others, Mr Paiboon, Mr Thawil and Pol Gen Wichean, to testify on May 6. Its ruling could end Ms Yingluck's premiership.
