Lawyer files PM's defence statement

Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's defence statement has been submitted to the Constitution Court on her behalf by Pichit Chuenban, chief of Pheu Thai's legal team, explaining the removal of Thawil Pliensri as National Security Council chief, PM's secretary-general Suranand Vejjajiva said on Tuesday.

The court on April 23 ordered Ms Yingluck to testify in person or submit a defence statement by Tuesday afternoon, April 29.

Mr Pichit assigned Wattana Tiangkul, a lawyer in his team, to submit the prime minister's defence statement to the court.

The statement was prepared after several meetings between Ms Yingluck and the team of lawyers, Mr Suranand said.
