At your average cafe, you can drink coffee, nibble, socialise, take selfies and whatnot. However, Bangkok is home to some special venues where you can do more than just chillax [chill out and relax]. This week we searched the city for cafes that offer unique add-ons and experiences. Here are our findings that should pique your curiosity.... cafes for animal lovers....

BUNNY BOOM

Rabbits at the new Lucky Bunny Cafe and Restaurant in Bangkok which allows diners to make friends with a new species to enhance their dining experience.

Plenty of aww moments can happen at Lucky Bunny Cafe & Restaurant where a bunch of bunnies await you. The fee to enter can be exchanged for food and drink at this house-turned-cafe. Enjoy carbonara or crepe a la mode and use hand sanitiser afterwards before you go play with the fluffy bunnies that are kept in a separate room. Watch the bunnies doing tricks and being cute in general. Go outside to the garden area where there are more cute props for you to take photos with. For a fee, you can bring your own rabbit to make friends with the other bunnies at the cafe. The adorable decorations and dolls at the venue are available for sale. They also sell healthy bunnies and are willing to give you tips and advice on how to raise these bunnies properly at home. The cafe is in the process of expanding to provide a one-stop service for all rabbit lovers’ needs. By the end of this year, they will have new facilities at the same location, including a rabbit spa, rabbit hotel, rabbit gift shop, rabbit clinic and bigger space for customers to play with rabbits.

Venue: Tue-Sun 10:30am-8pm. Lucky Bunny Cafe & Restaurant, Lat Phrao 101 Yaek 28.

CAT CORNERS

We first spotted a few cat cafes more than one year ago in the Sukhumvit area and already wrote about them but the number of such cafes in Bangkok seems to be growing slowly but steadily. Here are three more cat cafes in other areas of town.

Enjoy cakes such as Young coconut cake, Macadamia caramel cake and Rainbow crepe cake while petting a furry friend on your lap (if you’re good at cat charming) at Caturday Cafe. They have their own cute merchandise i.e. sitting cushions, glasses, and scarves for sale. You can also be kind to less fortunate cats as the cafe has a donation box which goes directly to support groups that work to help soi cats.

Venue: Tue-Fri noon-9:30pm, Sat-Sun 11am-9:30pm. Co-Co Walk, Phaya Thai Road, BTS Ratchathewi Exit 2.

At Makura Cat Cafe, get up-close and personal with cute felines (since you’ll be sitting on cushions on the floor) and enjoy their different personalities. You’ll have to use your cat-whisperer skills a bit to get their attention but that’s part of the fun. Our favourite feline is named Tiara. She’s very soft to touch, reminding us of a really fine rug. The cafe offers simple pasta dishes and beverages, and is located near Talad Nut Rod Fai so it’s very convenient to explore other shops and eateries afterwards.

Venue: Mon noon-9pm, Wed noon-10:30pm, Thu noon-9pm, Fri-Sun noon-10:30pm. Makura Cat Cafe, Srinagarindra Soi 51, Srinagarindra Road.

Kitty Cat Cafe has in total 27 cats of various breeds to charm you. Enjoy spaghetti, bakery items, smoothies or afternoon tea set as well as lots of cuddles with these furballs. The cafe also has cute merchandise and cat toys for sale. They will move to a new location near Bodindecha School, which isn’t so far from their original spot, and will become a one-stop service shop for cat lovers with a grooming service, cat shop, cat hotel and cat cafe. Kitty Cat Cafe version 2.0 is expected to open near the end of this month.

Venue: Tue-Sun 11am-8pm. Town in Town, Tree Square Avenue, Inthraporn Road.

HUB OF HUSKIES

People who have a soft spot for Siberian huskies should consider a visit to TrueLove Cafe. It’s part of a Siberian husky farm called Neverland Siberians. You can eat at the cafe and play with handsome huskies at an adjoining outdoor space. There are three rounds of playtime on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays while there are two rounds on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. They serve three set menus (B250, B300, B350). For example, their Spaghetti set consists of carbonara, apple tea and cake. Call in advance to get in.

Venue: Fri-Sun 12:30-2:30pm, 3:30-5:30pm, 6:30-8:30pm; Tue-Thu 12:30-2:30pm, 3:30-5:30pm. TrueLove Cafe, 153 Ari Samphan Soi 2, Phahon Yothin Road, BTS Ari Exit 1.
