His Majesty the King attends a ceremony to commemorate the 64th anniversary of Coronation Day. The ceremony was held at Klai Kangwon Palace in Hua Hin on Monday.

The ceremony was held at Rajapracha Samakhom Pavilion inside Klai Kangwon Palace in Hua Hin district, 130 kilometres south-west of Bangkok, on Monday morning.

Crowds of well-wishers, most wearing yellow, occupied areas on the footpaths along Phetkasem Road and repeatedly chanted "long live the King" as the royal motorcade made its way from Piemsuk Palace to the pavilion about 10.15am.

Many of the well-wishers had been waiting in choice spots since Sunday. Large television screens were set up along the route for people to watch the event.

The event was broadcast live on television nationwide.

The King arrived at the pavilion at 10.30am, but he did not deliver his traditional address on this occasion and did not get up on his wheelchair. The ceremony ended about 11am.

Her Majesty the Queen, 81, was not present during the ceremony.

Key national figures, such as caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda, Democrat Party chief adviser Chuan Leekpai and MR Pridiyathorn Devakula, attended Monday's ceremony.

The King, 86, was crowned on May 5, 1950 at the Royal Palace in Bangkok.
