Chamlong joins anti-govt protest

Maj Gen Chamlong Srimuang, a former leader of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), was among the anti-government protesters who travelled to the headquarters of TV Channel 5 on Phahon Yothin Road in Bangkok on Friday morning.

He was with members of the Dhamma Army -- an ally of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), which is demanding the ouster of the Pheu Thai Party-led coalition and national reform before the next election.

Maj Gen Chamlong is a former deputy prime minister. He was among PAD leaders protesting against the government of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and some following governments under Thaksin’s influence.

On Friday morning PDRC leaders and demonstrators left their protest base at Lumpini public park near Sala Daeng intersection en route to several important locations in Bangkok  -- the mainstream television stations, channels 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11, and to Government House.

Another group of PDRC protesters left their site near the central government complex on Chaeng Wattana Road for the government’s Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (Capo) on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. Capo was set up to handle anti-government protesters.

The PDRC has launched its “all-out final battle” against the caretaker government.
