Leading music shop owner in suicide

Shop forced out by new dept store development

Chatchawal Asavasopon, owner of the century-old Yong Seng Music shop, was found dead in the Chao Phraya River near the Wat Rakhang Khositaram pier in Bangkok Noi district, Bangkok, Wednesday morning.

The owner of the century-old Yong Seng Music shop was reported missing on May 12. He was later seen in surveillance camera footage at the pier of Wat Chi Chin Ko in Klong San district.

Authorities assume Chatchawal committed suicide by jumping into the Chao Phraya River.

They said his shop had earlier been forced to move from the Woeng Nakhon Kasem market in Samphanthawong district to allow the site's redevelopment.

He then invested about 10 million baht in a new shop near Wat Tuek intersection two years ago, but had since learned that property would also be taken over, to make way for the construction of a another   department store in 2017.

Chatchawal reportedly looked anxious and stressed in the camera footage at the Wat Chi Chin Ko pier.

Divers retrieved his body from the river and it was later identified as Chatachawal by relatives.
