Niwattumrong to meet Senate panel

Niwattumrong to meet Senate panel

Acting caretaker Prime Minister Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan has agreed to talks with the Senate's working panel to find ways to end the political crisis, appointed Senator Somchai Sawaengkan revealed late on Thursday evening.

Mr Somchai said the caretaker government had confirmed that Mr Niwattumrong had accepted the panels’ invitation for talks and would meet them on Saturday afternoon. He did not mention any topics for discussion.

However, he would discuss the place for the meeting later due to concerns about safety.

Mr Somchai said the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) is the only group that has yet to accept the Senate's invitation for talks.

"We’ve invited both the UDD and the government. If it is not convenient [to hold talks] they can write recommendations and submit them. However, the government has responded to our invitation and the talks will occur on Saturday afternoon," Mr Somchai said.
