Bangkok district council polls July 20

Polling in 14 council districts on July 20

Elections of members of 14 district councils in Bangkok will be held on July 20, according to Napaporn Sawasdimongkol, director of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's administration and registration department.

The registration of candidates would be open from June 9-13.

Ms Napaporn said the 14 districts are Khannayao, Bang Kapi, Bung Kum, Min Buri, Lat Phrao, Wang Thonglang, Saphan Sung, Laksi, Khlong Sam Wa, Chatuchak, Don Muang, Bang Khen, Lat Krabang and Sai Mai - all districts where the terms of the council members had expired.

Under the BMA Act of 1985, each district council has seven members.  Each council can have one additional member for every additional 150,000 people registered within its area.

The district councils which are eligible for eight members are Khlong Sam Wa, Chatuchak, Don Muang, Bang Khen, Lat Krabang and Sai Mai.
